The Capital Wine Festival kicked off its third year with an opening reception,Thursday night at the Fairfax Hotel at Embassy Row.

Guests enjoyed fine wines from 10 different wineries around the country, paired with a selection of passed hors d'oeuvres including World Artisan Cheeses, Peppered Trout, Roasted Baby Lamb Chops, Beef Tenderloin, Shrimp Scampi and much more. This year the festival added a touch of local flavor with local wineries, Tarara, Boxwood, and Barboursville.

"We are celebrating the best of food and wine in a 10 week celebration through January, February, and March. Guests will meet the winemakers, taste unique wines, and experience a terrific farm to table four-course meal prepared by our executive chef at 2100 Prime. Each dish is clvererly put together to compliment the wines," explained The Fairfax Hotel's Managing Director Stephen Johnston.

The Capital Wine Festival is based off of the Boston Wine Festival started by Daniel Bruce, which is in its 23rd year. The first dinner in the series begins on Wednesday, January 25 and is hosted by Beringer Vineyards. Check out all 10 dinners and purchase tickets online starting at $125.
