When you think of Rosa Mexicano you think of their signature tableside guacamole and a menu filled with authentic bold flavors. After trying their guacamole de postre, a sweet take on their most popular dish, also prepared tableside with sweet avocado ice cream, fresh strawberries, white chocolate shavings, Mexican wedding cookie crunch, coconut, and chopped mint leaves; I now think of decadent sorbets, ice cream, sundaes, and crepes. I know what you are thinking, sweet avocado ice cream? Trust me it packs a flavorful punch and every bite tastes better than the last. It’s definitely a must try before Labor Day.

“We’re just trying to celebrate the summer and the flavors of Mexico. We have these unique flavors in Mexican cooking and we try to represent them through the different ice creams that we make,” explained Rosa Mexicano’s Executive Chef at National Harbor, Steven Lukis.

Patrons can choose an ice cream sundae with a tantalizing blend of sorbets from orange, carrot, and mango to strawberry and juniper berry topped with juicy mango and strawberry salsas. The sundae is then topped with citrus whipped cream, lemon zest and served with coconut ice cream cones (which you can use as a spoon), leaving your palette refreshed.

“It’s rare that you’d go to a Mexican restaurant expecting to have delicious ice cream and fresh desserts, but at Rosa Mexicano we have a pastry chef who actually prepares desserts daily. They are homeruns I’d say,” explained Chef Lukis who we couldn’t agree with more.

Additionally, diners can sample a trio of seven scrumptious ice cream flavors including my favorites: The toasted Marshmallow Ice cream which has a camp fire/ nut taste along with the Piloncillo which has raisins and pineapple with Mexican carrot cake pieces, and smoked cashews, and the corn truffle with toffee bits, chocolate and cinnamon. For the beer lovers, they also have a chocolate Negro Modelo ice cream with salted cajeta and candied bacon.

Rosa Mexicano has also introduced five new dishes to their menu including a queso fundido dish with garlic shrimp and melted cheese (yum!) Wash that down with their house made lemon sorbet cocktail (tequila, pineapple juice, fresh lime and sage).

The Festival runs until September 4th and with all the exotic flavors offered, you won’t be disappointed!
