This story comes to us from Scott L. Peterson:

UPPER MARLBORO, MD – Today, Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III, named Eric C. Brown as Acting Director of the Prince George’s County Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD).

“The Prince George’s County Department of Housing and Community Development is a critical department to thousands of Prince George’s County families and residents,” said Baker. “It was a priority of my administration to find the right leader to improve the service, reputation, and management of this department.  We have found an incredible and experienced housing expert in Eric Brown.”

Brown has over 30 years of governmental experience. He has served as Executive Director of the Meridian (Mississippi) Housing Authority and Annapolis Housing Authority. He has also served as Deputy Executive Director of housing agencies in New Orleans, Philadelphia and Baltimore.

“I am excited and honored to serve the residents of Prince George's County,” said Brown. “I look forward to being a part of the Baker Administration working to improve communities throughout the County."

The Prince George’s County Department of Housing and Community Development serves individuals and families with housing or community improvement needs. Through aggressive pursuit of grants, creative financing, innovative planning, and partnerships with public, private, and community organizations, the Department works to ensure that all residents have a decent and safe place to live.  In addition to formulating plans for housing development and distributing grants, the Department also provides residents with information about home ownership, gives advice and guidance on housing-related issues, and administers public housing programs.

Brown replaces Acting DHCD Director Betty Francis Hager who had been managing the department since Baker’s Inauguration on December 6, 2010. His appointment must be approved by the Prince George’s County Council.

“I want to thank Betty Francis Hager for the wonderful job she did managing the Housing and Community Relations department on an interim basis,” said Baker “I needed an experienced manager who knew the Prince George’s County government, and Betty selflessly served the residents with an impeccable performance.”
