Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III, released the following statement following U.S. Senator Barbara Mikulski’s historic milestone:
“On behalf of the citizens of Prince George’s County, I want to lend our voice of thanks and appreciation to Senator Barbara Mikulski on her historic accomplishment of being the longest serving female Member of the United States Congress.
Senator Mikulski’s tenure in Congress has earned her accolades around the country and the world. Here in Maryland, and specifically in Prince George’s County, her longevity does not define her success. Her longevity is a result of how successful she has been in serving our communities and how much she has accomplished as an ever vigilant advocate and extremely valuable resource for our residents.
Senator Mikulski is a Marylander who defies the status quo, always champions what is right, and she has spent a lifetime providing excellent public service. And similar to another native Marylander, former Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, Senator Mikulski will forever be remembered and noted as a trailblazer in American history.
Since being elected to the United States Senate over 25 years ago, Senator Mikulski has been a determined fighter and a strong, forceful voice for Prince Georgians. Throughout her career, Senator Mikulski has vigorously represented the voiceless and her constituent service is a model for all public officials in Prince George’s County, the State of Maryland, and around the nation to emulate.
Senator Barbara Mikulski’s energetic leadership, dedication and commitment to the citizens of Maryland will continue to raise the bar in public service standards as she takes on each challenge to secure our nation’s future.”
