Missing man from Va. found in Ga.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- Police say a 37-year-old man from Alexandria, Va. who was reported missing last week was found in Georgia.      

Terence S. Dougherty was last seen leaving his home in the 7500 block of Grey Goose Way on Dec. 4.

Thursday, police released a one-line update: "Terence S. Dougherty made himself known to officials in Georgia and the Fairfax County Police Department was informed on Sunday, December 8."

Non-profit provides housing to children who make the honor roll

SEAT PLEASANT, Md. (WUSA9) --- One out of every four children face poverty and homelessness in the area.

Volunteers of America, Chesapeake strives to provide a stable environment for homeless children and their families. One of the non-profit's programs offers housing and support to over 80 low-income families and their children at Eastern Avenue Apartments.

WUSA got to visit the community center at the apartment complex  during a pizza party for the children in the after-school program. The elementary-aged students have all made the honor roll this semester.

Woman wanted for multiple thefts

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- Montgomery County police need your help locating a woman wanted for multiple thefts in D.C. and Montgomery County.

Police say 42-year-old Desha Wilkins of District Heights, Maryland, may be responsible for approximately 20 pickpocket and fraud incidents in the area.

The incidents happened in the months of October and November at grocery stores, officials said.

On November 21, police served a search warrant at Wilkins' residence in District Heights. Wilkins was not at home, but police say they found evidence linking Wilkins to the crimes.

Wilkins is described as a black female, 5'5? tall, and weighing approximately 160 pounds. Detectives believe that she is still in the Washington, D.C. area.  

Anyone with information regarding Wilkins whereabouts is asked to contact the 4th District Investigative Section at (240) 773-5475.

Md. house fire under investigation

SUITLAND, Md. (WUSA9) -- Prince George's County fire officials are investigating a house fire on Friday in Silver Hill.

The fire happened in the attic of a two story home at 2810 Sunset Lane, according to a tweet from spokesperson Mark Brady.

Officials say firefighters are performing overhaul and there were no injuries reported. The cause is under investigation.

Shutdown: Census Bureau workers picket

SUITLAND, Md. (WUSA9) -- Some U.S. Census Bureau workers took to the picket lines on Monday to express their anger with Congress. They picketed outside their offices in Suitland.

The workers shouted "Put us back to work" as they marched.

A spokesman for the group says, "We want people to know we are not invisible people. We are human beings with families."

Wednesday, the group plans to picket downtown.
