Prince George's Police Try New Tactic To Prevent More Violence

PALMER PARK, MD (WUSA) Prince Georges County Police turned to what they called saturation patrols Wednesday, in an attempt to deal with a 2011 homicide rate that now averages one a day.

Sheriffs deputies, Maryland State Police troopers, and officers from local police departrments in the county joined county police to put more than 60 additional officers in neighborhoods that have seen those murders since the beginning of the year.

"What they're going to be doing is as much as they can to really get into the community, make their presence known, talk to people, see if anybody out there knows, or may be connected to any of these crimes. Their high visibility is going to help

prevent future crime from occuring, let ctiizens of Prince Georges County know that we're out there, " said Cpl. Evan Baxter of the Prince Georges County Police.

Police Investigate Seventh Murder In Six Days

SEAT PLEASANT, Md. (WUSA) -- The deadly crime trend in Prince George's County continues with the investigation of the seventh homicide of 2011.

Prince George's County Police are currently on the scene of a homicide investigation in Seat Pleasant, police said.

It happened at 11:43 a.m. Thursday. Prince George's County police responded to the 900 block of Central Hills Lane for the report of a shooting.

When they got there, they saw a man had been shot. He was pronounce dead at the scene.

Police have arrested a man in connection to the most recent homicide, and they may have found the murder weapon as well.

It's the seventh murder in 2011.

Wednesday night, Corporal Erica Johnson, spokeswoman for Prince George's County Police, says officers were called to a building in the 1300 block of Southview Drive just after 9:00 p.m.

PALMER PARK, Md. (WUSA) --  The Prince George's County Police Department is struggling to keep up with the murders happening in their county.  

Detectives were busy trying to solve the five cases when a 6th person was shot to death Wednesday night.

It happened in a hallway at an Oxon Hill apartment building in the 13-hundred block of Southview Drive.

Tuesday night, a man was shot in Hillcrest Heights while standing on the steps of his friend's house.

Rosalind Dunigan is a resident who was woken up by the sound of gunfire, "Pow, pow, pow, pow. That's what it sounded like? It was scary."

Residents such as Rosalind Dunigan are in fear and are struggling to comprehend the recent violence.

In Fort Washington, one man had his mouth duct-taped and possibly his throat slit.  Police say his friend also duct-taped was dragged out of the house, shot and killed outside a landfill.

Man, Woman Found With Stab Wounds In Md. Apartment

SUITLAND, Md. (WUSA) -- A woman and man were found with stab wounds after police responded to a disturbance call Wednesday night in Suitland.

Prince George's County Spokesperson Cpl. Clinton Copeland said about 9:31 p.m. officers were called to an apartment in the 3300 block of Curtis Dr.

They found the man and woman suffering from cut and stab wounds.

Copeland also said officers had to use a taser on the male after their arrival.

Copeland said the relationship between the two people is unclear but that they do know each other.

Both people will be taken to the hospital.

Quadruple Shooting Adds To Homicide Count In Prince George's County

TEMPLE HILLS, Md. (WUSA) -- Homicide detectives in Prince George's County are investigating a quadruple shooting in Temple Hills that has left one person dead.

Corporal Erica Johnson, spokeswoman for the Prince George's County Police Department, says officers were called to the 4000 block of Norcross Street around 11:43 Tuesday night when someone reported the sound of gunshots in the area. Officers arriving on scene found four young men suffering from gunshot wounds. One of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene.

Johnson says the other three victims were taken to a local hospital. Their conditions are unknown at this time.

Cpl. Johnson says police officers canvassed the neighborhood overnight in the hopes of finding witnesses to crime.

Police Investigate Homicide At Suitland Ballroom

SUITLAND, Md. (WUSA) -- Police in Prince George's county are investigating an overnight homicide at a Suitland ballroom.

Corporal Erica Johnson, spokeswoman for the Prince George's County Police Department, says patrol officers responded to the 3900 block of Bexley Place around 12:43 Tuesday morning to investigate a report of shots fired. Once the officers arrived on scene they found a male victim suffering from gunshot wounds to the body. Johnson says the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Johnson, the shooting took place at Upscale Ballroom. Right now it is not clear if the business is an established club or a space that was being rented for a party.
