SUITLAND, Md. (WUSA9) -- A water main break in Suitland will cause a headache for drivers and impact service for over a hundred customers Thursday morning.

Officials with the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission tell WUSA*9 the break is occurred in a 71-year-old 14-inch main around 8:00 Thursday night. Right now the northbound lanes of Silver Hill Road are closed between Brooks Drive and Royal Plaza Drive. The southbound lanes were reopened overnight.

According to Jerry Irvine, spokesman for WSSC, crews have been working through the night to shut off water to the area. Approximately 150 customers are impacted by the water main break.

Two schools in the area, Suitland High and Drew Freeman Middle still have water and classes are expected to begin on time.

Repairs could take awhile. The pipe line is next to a gas line.

Police are asking all residents to avoid the area.
