GM Showcases Safety and Style at Fed Ex Field

On Friday, June 24th, at FedEx Field, 1600 FedEx Way, Landover, Md., over 50 Chevrolet, Buick and GMC model including the award-winning Chevy Volt – will be on site and available for you to view, compare and test drive, all in one place. Chevrolet, Buick and GMC are committed to protecting drivers and passengers before, during and after a crash.

In addition, a professional driver with GMC will simulate the loss of control of a vehicle, so you can see how safety systems like StabiliTrak help keep a car on the road. Chevrolet will also have a crashed Cruze on display, and Buick will show a vehicle cut-away to explain Rollover Mitigation Technology

Summer is here and it’s time to get your bicycle ready for some warm weather fun! 

Saturday, June 25th from 11 a.m.- 4 p.m., bring your own bicycles or tricycles for an afternoon of fixing, decorating, and bike riding with the National Children’s Museum, the Alexander Lance Booker Child Safety Foundation, Calleva, Wheels to Africa, and Trails for Youth. Create your own bicycle nameplate; participate in a bicycle rodeo featuring a safety obstacle course with the Prince George’s County Park Police; an obstacle course and a bicycle race with Trails for Youth, bicycle maintenance workshops, and much more! 

Plus, enter a raffle to win a $50 gift card to Revolution Cycles, bicycle-inspired jewelry from Phoenix Bikes, and many more bike related giveaways! Additional activities will also take place at the National Children’s Museum Launch Zone.  

Prince George's County Health & Lifestyle Tour

LARGO, MD-- The Prince George’s County Health Department’s Division of Addictions and Mental Health Services will co-sponsor the Yolanda Adams’ Health and Lifestyle Tour on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at Jericho Christian Academy in Landover from 12:00pm – 5:00pm.

Award winning gospel artist Yolanda Adams is the force behind this fun-filled day of live performances by gospel artists, health screenings and health education. Workshops will be held during the event to provide information on substance abuse and other subjects to 1000+ individuals expected to attend.

Scripps National Spelling B-E-E

Prior to The E.W. Scripps Spelling Bee Wednesday, June 1st at the National Harbor, 275 contestants took a written test that counted toward each speller's preliminary score. There were 138 boys and 137 girls who ranged in age from 8 to 15 from all over the world.

 

“This year at the Scripps National Spelling Bee we have 275 students competing and they come from all over the world. It’s not just a United States event but we draw spellers from Japan, New Zealand, and South Korea,” said  E.W. Scripps Communication’s Manager Lee Rose

2011 National Memorial Day Parade

The National Memorial Day Parade will be held Monday, May 30, at 2:00 p.m. Before the parade stasrts there will be musical performances and ceremones at 1:00 p.m. held at the National Archives. The parade begins at the corner of Constitution Avenue and 7th Street and will travel along Constitution. Check out the entire parade route.
