Oktoberfest comes to National Harbor

On October 24th and 25th, receive a souvenir tasting mug and enjoy Das Best Oktoberfest, Maryland's largest beer festival at National Harbor.

The show features over 200 International Beers and Wines, Oompah bands, live music, German food, German performers including cultural dancing, accordion sing-alongs and carnival games. The show has hundreds of arts, crafts and other exhibits. The two-day celebration of Germany's annual beer extravaganza offers different admission packages and specials. Two day VIP admission is $85. VIP admission is $55 on Saturday and $45 on Sunday and can be purchased in advance only.

More Than 100 Authors To Highlight 2011 National Book Festival

An unprecedented 112 authors, poets and illustrators will speak and meet with their readers at the 2011 National Book Festival, sponsored by the Library of Congress. The event, to be held Saturday, Sept. 24 and Sunday, Sept. 25 on the National Mall – rain or shine – also will offer more authors and activities for young readers than ever before.

The event is free and open to the public. Saturday hours will be from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sunday hours will be from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Authors’ speaking and book-signing schedules are available on the festival website, www.loc.gov/bookfest.

On Tuesday, September 13th from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm, FedEx employees from the DC, Virginia and Maryland area,

along with the local United Way, are volunteering to assist

Food & Friends with preparing and packaging meals.

 

Food & Friends fosters a community of caring for men,

women, and children living with HIV/AIDS, cancer, and other

life-challenging illnesses by preparing and delivering

specialized meals and groceries in conjunction with nutrition

counseling.

Celebrates 51st Anniversary in Sept.

 The Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church festival celebrates their 51st annual festival, Friday through Sunday, Sept. 16, 17 and 18, 2011, from 12 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 12 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Sunday (rain or shine). The largest and oldest DC Greek Festival is located at Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church at the corner of 16th and Upshur streets in Washington, D.C. Admission is FREE.
