Fedex Volunteers Support Food & Friends In Washington, DC

The following information was sent to us from Deborah Willing:

On Tuesday, September 13th from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm, FedEx employees from the DC, Virginia and Maryland area,

along with the local United Way, are volunteering to assist

Food & Friends with preparing and packaging meals.

Food & Friends fosters a community of caring for men,

women, and children living with HIV/AIDS, cancer, and other

life-challenging illnesses by preparing and delivering

specialized meals and groceries in conjunction with nutrition

counseling.

FedEx volunteers will contribute to the preparation and

delivery of 3,700 nutritious meals, which are produced each

day to ensure that the critically ill neighbors supported by the

Food & Friends network in a 5,300 square mile area around

Washington, DC, receive the sustenance they need to fight

their illness and the challenging side-effects related to

treatment. This year, Food & Friends will prepare and deliver

nearly 1.1 million meals.

During the week of September 12, close to 4,000 FedEx

employees from  around the world will volunteer and

participate in over 20,000 hours of local community service

activities as part of the seventh annual FedEx Cares Week.

FedEx Cares Week celebrates the spirit of volunteerism,

collaboration and community at FedEx.

FedEx Cares Week serves as a formal kick-off for the annual

FedEx United Way campaign, in addition to providing an

opportunity for FedEx employees to give back to the

communities they serve.
