Prince George’s County, Maryland-Sheriff Melvin C. High said at his first press conference as Sheriff, that he has achieved the goals he set out for the first ninety days of his administration as Sheriff and that the Agency is where he hoped it would be.  The Sheriff said warrants have been reduced by over 3,000 since he took office and that the approach he and his leadership team took from day one was to roll up their sleeves with specific plans for the Agency.

“Today, we are quite literally where I hoped to be in the first ninety days in office,” said High. 

Serial Rapist Expands to Include Billboards and Website

Today, the FBI, with Fairfax County, Prince William County, Prince George’s County, Leesburg, New Haven, and Cranston Police Departments launched a digital billboard campaign to assist in a serial rape investigation involving 12 sexual assaults or attempted sexual assaults between 1997 and 2009 by the same offender.  Each of these assaults is linked by DNA.

        U.S. District Judge Alexander Williams sentenced Erick Roman, a/k/a “Erick Javier Sierra,” “Malian-T” and “King Malian-T,” age 34, of Laurel, Maryland, late yesterday to 60 years in prison, followed by five years of supervised release, for conspiracy to participate in a racketeering enterprise, in connection with his gang activities as a member and leader of the Almighty Latin King and Queen Nation (Latin Kings).

Man Dies In Fatal Stabbing In District Heights

DISTRICT HEIGHTS, MD (WUSA)--Prince George's County Police say that at approximately 4:02AM Sunday, officers responded to the 7500 block of Marion Street in District Heights, Maryland, for a report of a stabbing.

Police say that when officers arrived at the location they found 28 year old Ralph Benard Thomas Jr, unresponsive, suffering from stab wounds. During the investigation police determined the stabbing actually occured at Silver Hill Road and Suitland Road. Thomas was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police are looking for a light blue or possibly a silver blue late model Chevy occupied by a black male and a black female.

This is the 17th homicide of 2011 in Prince George's County.

Vigilance Must Remain High in Prince George's County

Prince George’s County has certainly suffered through a rough start in the beginning of 2011 as 13 people have been killed in 13 days.  The interim Prince George’s County Police Chief, Mark Magaw, has implored to residents, “These homicides do not appear to be random acts, I expect this cycle of violence to be stopped.”    

He also stated that most of the crimes have been drug-related because of some of the victims’ criminal past.  So far Oxon Hill,surrounding areas Fort Washington, Temple Hills and Suitland, have suffered five of the 13 killings.  Even with that said, it is still important that residents do not let their guard down and continue to practice fundamental safety precautions.  Here are a list of some important tips that can help you keep yourself and your family safe.
