Festival of India

Festival of India

Hundreds are expected at the Murugan Temple  of North America, Lanham, Maryland, on Sunday, July 3rd from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.

This day will celebrate the festival known as the  FESTIVAL OF UNIVERSAL BROTHERHOOD,  SRI JAGANNATHA RATHA JATRA  (Chariot Festival), a yearly Hindu spiritual procession, that highlights the notion of global  harmony and unity.

THE RATHA JATRA, began  thousands of years ago, as a yearly celebration in Puri, the temple town in the State of Orissa on the east coast of India. Millions congregate to see the  huge, colorfully-decorated chariots in a procession honoring the Hindu Lord Jagannatha, Brother Balaram and Sister Devi Subhadra, said Mr. Nayak.

Favorite Friday's: What's Your Favorite Date Spot?

Tired of going on dates at the same restaurants? Mix it up a bit by sampling a few of my favorite date spots in the DC metro area.

In my opinion, Gravelly Point; north of Washington National Airport, along the George Washington Parkway takes the cake. Bring a blanket, your iPhone to set Pandora on a good station, a bottle of wine or two, and dinner. It is a romantic picnic spot with a nice backdrop of the river where planes fly directly over your head.

My second favorite spot features an array of jazz artists performing a range of styles. If you haven’t been to Jazz in the Garden, it’s a must try and The National Gallery of Art does it right. They offer free jazz performances at its outdoor café every Friday evening throughout the summer from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Visitors can enjoy cocktails and a light dinner while listening to great music among 20th-century sculpture and flowering trees, shrubs, groundcovers, and perennials.

Live Music & Model Sketching at Art Whino!

Live Music & Model Sketching at Art Whino!

On Saturday, June 18th, from 6pm – Midnight head to Art Whino Gallery in National Harbor to view Chris Sheridan’s artwork.

His show, Shadows, Persona, and Trickery takes an in-depth look at magic and religion, their symbolism and ritual, how they played a role in building our early societies, and the disconnect between these theories and beliefs and contemporary modes of thinking. There will be a free sketching session from 6pm-8pm, and a cocktail reception with live music.
