A Unique Coalition is Giving Needy Kids the Chance for Summer Camp
Arts & Culture

This summer from June 27th to August 5th the Summer at Saint Francis camp program is making summer camp possible for needy children from Langley Park.  Eleven different organizations from the Washington area and as far away as Boston and Sacramento are volunteering and providing resources to make camp a reality for these children at St. Camillus Campus of Saint Francis International School,1500 St. Camillus Drive, Silver Spring, MD 20903.

The greatest challenge  was finding a way to make sure that the camp could provide a safe and fun camp experience that reinforces academic, leadership, and social skills but was also able to meet its financial obligations.

Funding was pulled together from many different sources to provide scholarships for about 30 children from Langley Park.

The greatest portion of these funds came from generous funders associated with Camp Fire USA including the United Way.  Parishioners from St. Camillus Church also donated to help sponsor

students from the parish mission.

The coalition includes the following organizations:

Camp Fire USA - Patuxent Council (based in Greenbelt, MD)

Saint Francis International School (Silver Spring & Hyattsville Maryland)

Catholic Community of Langley Park (Langley Park, MD)

Who is Saint Francis International School?

Saint Francis International School was founded in 2010 through merger of St. Mark the Evangelist and St. Camillus

Catholic School, both of which had a legacy of over 50 years of service to the greater Hyattsville and Silver Spring

communities.  Saint Francis International School is driven by the belief that we are partners with parents in helping

children to be all that God intends for them to be.
