The following notice was sent to us by Christy A. Lipscomb:

 

Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III will serve as guest conductor for the opening concert of the Prince George’s Philharmonic on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at Prince George’s Community College.

 

The Philharmonic was founded in 1964 and was initially known as the Prince George’s Civic Symphony Orchestra.  The first concert was held on December 19, 1965 at Bowie High School.

 

Today, many of the performances take place at the Prince George’s Community College and the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center.  The Philharmonic has received critical acclaim and grown as an orchestra in the variety of music it performs, its collaborative efforts with talented guest artists and groups.
