Man wanted in connection to 4 Prince George’s Co. robberies

BRANDYWINE, Md. (WUSA9) -- A man caught on camera robbing a gas station in Brandywine is wanted in connection to four different robberies, three of which happened within three days of each other. 

The surveillance video was taken inside a gas station in the 16000 block of McKendree Road in Brandywine on August 27 at around 5:20 a.m. After grabbing cash, police say the suspect sped away in a blue Ford with Maryland tags 1AZ8591 that was stolen just before the robbery on Albert Drive in Brandywine.

Police believe the man, along with an accomplice, is behind three other robberies in Prince George's County.

One day after that robbery, police say the two of them robbed a convenience store in the 4900 block of Silver Hill Road in Suitland. The next day after that, they robbed a sub shop in the 5700 block of Silver Hill Road in Suitland, according to police.

Firefighter injured while fighting Suitland fire

SUITLAND, Md. (WUSA9) -- A firefighter was injured by falling debris while fighting a fire in Suitland, Md. Saturday afternoon.

According to a spokesperson for Prince George's County fire, the firefighter has been treated and released from shock trauma center. Their specific injuries were not given.

Firefighters responded to a two-alarm fire that involved at least two townhouses in the 4200 block of Apple Orchard Lane in Suitland.

The fire appeared to have started in the rear deck of a home and traveled up the rear exterior wall and into the attic, according to the spokesperson. The fire appears accidental in nature.  

2 dead, 2 in the hospital after car crash in Suitland

SUITLAND, Md. (WUSA9) -- Two people died at a local hospital after a car crash in Suitland early Sunday, police said.

The crash happened on Suitland Parkway at Meadowview Drive around 12:45 a.m. Police say the accident involved two cars.

A woman in one of the vehicles died at the hospital early Sunday and police say another person died at the hospital Sunday afternoon. 

Police say two other people involved in the accident are in stable condition.

At least two occupants of one of the cars involved in the crash are related, police said. 

The investigation is ongoing and police say no charges are pending.

Woman assaulted while sleeping on her couch in Suitland

SUITLAND, Md. (WUSA9) -- A woman was sexually assaulted Monday while police say she slept on her couch in Suitland.

Prince George's County police spent Wednesday night going door to door at a Suitland apartment complex trying to gather information. Police say the suspect broke into one of the apartments wearing a mask at 4:30 in the afternoon.

Abby Desta was working Monday afternoon. Until Wednesday night, she didn't know that a woman was sexually assaulted in the apartment complex where she lives.

"I have never heard something like this. Right now, I'm totally shaky and scared and I have to leave," said Desta.

Police say the woman who was assaulted was inside, asleep on the couch.

"He had a handgun. He woke her up and he sexually assaulted her," said Pfc. Michael Owen, Spokesman Prince George's Police Department.

Woman sexually assaulted in Suitland home

SUITLAND, Md. (WUSA9) -- Police are looking for a man who sexually assaulted a woman who was inside of her Suitland home sleeping on Monday afternoon.

The sexual assault happened in the 3200 block of Swann Road on Monday around 4:30 p.m. The man broke into the apartment with a gun and confronted the woman who was sleeping.

The suspect is being described as a black man, about 6'0- 6'3", with a thin build, police said. He was wearing a black mask, black baseball cap and all black clothing.

A reward of $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest, police said. Detective will canvass the area Wednesday night.

Suitland man gets 50 years in death of girlfriend's son

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (WUSA9) -- A Suitland man who pleaded guilty to the death of his girlfriend's son was sentenced Friday to 50 years in prison.

Clifton Bernard, 28, pleaded guilty in December to second-degree murder and child abuse in the death of two-year-old Jamir Shipe.

On May 22, 2013, Bernard was watching Shipe while Shipe's mother was at work. At one point, Bernard became angry with Shipe and assaulted him, ramming his head through the drywall in the apartment. Prosecutors say the beating caused severe head trauma and Shipe died from his injuries a day later.

In addition to the prison sentence, Bernard also received five years of supervised probation.

Suitland man accused of having sexual contact with minor

SUITLAND, Md. (WUSA9) -- A Suitland man was arrested on a warrant for second degree rape that was issued on July 1, Prince George's County Sheriff's Office said.

Jamaal Jackson of Suitland, Md. is being accused of having sexual contact with a minor at his home located in the 2000 block of Houston Street in Suitland, Md. back in May.

Jackson was found at his home on July 6 and arrested without incident.
